You will see WHM initial setup screen when you access the server first time after cPanel installation is completed. There are six steps (Initial Setup Step 1 out of 6) before you can fully access WHM.

Step 1 : Agreement

You must accept the “cPanel & WebHost Manager WHM End User License Agreement” before you start using WHM. Read the Agreement carefully and then You must agree to the cPanel End-User License Agreement to proceed to steps 2.

End-User License Agreement contains information about the terms of using WHM/cPanel. Click on “I Agree/Go to Step2”.
 


 
Step 2 : Setup Networking

Enter the contact details to get alerted when there is any issue on the server.

Server Contact Email Address = Enter Server contact email address in “Server Contact Email Address” field. Enter an email address where you can be reached in case a problem arises with your server.

Server Contact SMS Address = Enter a cellular phone or pager email address that can be messaged in case a problem arises with this server.

Server Contact AIM Name = One AIM name you can be reached in case a problem arises with your server.

Server Contact ICQ Number = Enter one or more ICQ user identification numbers you can be reached at in case a problem arises with this server.

This Server’s Hostname = Enter the hostname of your server in this field. Hostname is the label of your server and it should be a fully qualified domain name.

In the resolver field you can enter the Primary Resolver and Secondary Resolver of the server. Primary resolver will resolve the domain names and Secondary Resolver will help to resolve domains when secondary resolver is unreachable. In the Primary resolver field enter : 4.2.2.1 and in Secondary Resolver field enter 4.2.2.2

You can also enter an IP address in Third Resolver. This backup nameserver will be used if both Primary Resolver and Secondary Resolver is unreachable.

Select the main network/Ethernet device.

After doing the above steps click on “Save & Go to Step 3”.

Step 3 : Set Up IP Addresses

It will show the available IP addresses on the server. Click on “Go to Step 4”

Step 4 : Nameserver Configuration

By Default ‘BIND’ nameserver will selected in WHM initial setup. Other options are PowerDNS, MyDNS, NSD and Disabled.

Enter the nameservers in the nameserver field (These are the nameservers the domain on your server will use)

Enter A record for your server hostname and for your nameservers.

Click on ‘Save & Go to Step 5’ after doing the above steps
 


 
5. By default Pure-FTPD will be selected while configuring the FTP server. ProFTPD has few disadvantages so it is better to use pure-ftpd.

Tick Configure cPHulk Brute Force Protection

Click on ‘Save & Go to Step 6’
 


 
6. Quotas

Select the radio button ‘Use file system quotas’, this will help to track the disk space used by the cPanel accounts on your server.

Click on ‘Finish Setup Wizard’
